Students at Texans Can Academy – Fort Worth Lancaster Avenue learned how to determine the age and gender of the common quail, also known as the coturnix coturnix, thanks to Texas Parks and Wildlife’s recent donation to the school’s science program.

Texas Parks and Wildlife donated the quails for the students to dissect in their weekly biology labs. The students each took turns dissecting the birds to examine the feathers, the beaks, the food types and many more aspects of the anatomy of the quail. They were also able to determine how the animal emerges itself into the wilderness.
