Texans Can Academies is proud to partner with United Way of Tarrant County to help provide meals for their Fort Worth students and their families over the summer.
United Way of Tarrant County has donated close to 1,000 meals to Texans Can Academies every week for the past three weeks at the Texans Can Academies - Fort Worth Lancaster Avenue campus. The meal donations are expected to continue for seven weeks. The meals are delivered on Mondays and Wednesdays to the school and include prepared meals for the week for one student and two additional people. Volunteers for Texans Can Academies then help deliver the meals to the families of students at both Texans Can Academies - Fort Worth Lancaster Avenue and Texans Can Academies - Fort Worth Westcreek campuses. About 20 families receive meals for their entire household for the week.
Trader Joe’s is also providing supplemental food donations packaged with the prepared meals that are given to families on Mondays and Tuesdays. The additional donations include bread, produce, and non-perishable foods.
Trader Joe’s staff and Texans Can Academies staff volunteer their time to help Texans Can Academies deliver the food to students and their families.
The prepared meal donations are made possible by funding from United Way of Tarrant County. Z’s Cafe & Catering, in Fort Worth, purchases the supplies, recruits volunteers, and prepares and packages the meals.

According to a study from Feeding America, Tarrant County is one of the top 10 counties in the US with the highest number of people experiencing food insecurity.
“Food insecurity is one of the top issues facing our community as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Leah King, president and CEO of United Way Tarrant County. “We are grateful for our partnership with Texans Can Academies and Z’s Cafe to ensure those most in need receive nutritional meals.”
Texans Can Academies aims to remove any obstacles and fulfill the needs of each of their high school students in order for them to focus on their education to move on to brighter futures. Texans Can Academies are a unique network of 14 dropout recovery and prevention schools located in Fort Worth, Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. The schools are tuition-free, open enrollment, public high schools of choice serving students who have struggled in a traditional high school setting.
