The Louella and Nicholas Martin Wee Can Academy located at Texans Can Academy - Fort Worth Lancaster Avenue welcomes new early head start program in partnership with Center for Transforming Lives.
The Louella and Nicholas Martin Wee Can Academy, located within Texans Can Academy – Fort Worth Lancaster Avenue on 1316 East Lancaster Avenue, has introduced a new early childhood development program in partnership with Center for Transforming Lives. The partnership will permit the Wee Can Academy to expand their efforts in early onsite childcare education to toddlers six weeks – 2 ½ years old, along with providing a reliable childcare outlet for families in the Tarrant County region. To date, 24 children have been dually enrolled in the Louella and Nicholas Martin Wee Can Academy and Center for Transforming Lives Early Head Start program to participate in the pilot classes.
Wee Can Academy was created by Texans Can Academies as part of the school’s commitment to education and removing barriers for their high school students who are also parents by providing affordable child care while they attend class. Across the state of Texas, there are currently six Wee Can Academy centers on the schools’ campuses.
The Center for Transforming Lives (formerly the YWCA™ Fort Worth & Tarrant County) moves women, children and families from poverty to independence through safe housing, early childhood development and financial empowerment services. The program is possible in large part to an Early Head Start grant awarded to the Center by the U.S. Health and Human Service’s Administration for Children and Families (ACF), which provides high-quality, early childhood development for infants living in poverty and homelessness in Tarrant County.
“We are thrilled to witness the results of this partnership,” said Ebony Simmons, the Louella and Nicholas Martin Wee Can Academy center manager. “It is the center’s honor to be a part of the Tarrant County community and offer vital early childhood education services to infants and pre-school aged children. It is equally important to ensure their families have a reliable center to count on for other services that will nurture and support their families.”
The mission of the Early Head Start program is to provide a nurturing and educational environment for children and to partner with and support the families that are a part of the school. The program will enrich the lives of infants and toddlers through play, social and academic activities that provide experiences to stimulate the physical, emotional and cognitive growth of each child.
