FW Artist Builds, Donates Chair for Child Care Associates Main Street Arts Festival Display

Child Care Associates (CCA) will celebrate the Week of the Young Child at Fort Worth’s Main Street Arts Festival April 19-22, 2018. CCA will be on site to ensure that the youngest festivalgoers have activities designed just for them. This includes a cozy reading nook, story stones, a make-and-take story book, and an oversized Adirondack chair photo op that aims to remind people of all ages what it feels like to be a young child.

The Adirondack chair was custom built by Fort Worth artisan Cody Tullos as a donation to CCA. Of the project, Tullos states, “If it were not for programs like CCA, I certainly wouldn't be in the position I am in life today. I was raised by a single mother in the slums of south Boston, and if it weren't for after school programs and supplemental education generated by charitable/subsidized programs while my mom tirelessly pursued a better life for us, I suspect I would be in a very bad place today. Building something that will be on display in one of my favorite places, and ideally raise awareness for a cause so near and dear to my heart is not only a privilege, but an honor to me and instills a great sense of pride.”

Since 1968 CCA has served over 580,000 young children ages 0-5 years old in greater Tarrant County. CCA’s fiftieth anniversary theme is #SmallisBIG to help us all remember the importance of the early years of a child’s life and the lifelong impact that positive investments in young children has on our community. The story stones activity is designed to help parents boost the language and imagination skills of young children which research supporting as essential to brain development. Promoting strong language skills and boosting adult-child relationships of trust are important aspects of early education that CCA is passionate about across its twenty-three campuses.

Main Street Arts Festival attracts crowds young and old and this year falls during the national Week of the Young Child, a time when the country pauses and remembers the needs of our youngest members of society. “We’re always pleased to have the opportunity to connect with our community yet our specific focus is to connect with families of very young children in new and exciting ways,” says CCA CEO Kara Waddell. “We hope Fort Worth will stop by especially with their infants, toddlers and preschoolers and find us at Main Street Arts Festival.”
