Fort Worth, TX – Medical City Fort Worth has received elite national recognition as an approved National Pancreas Foundation (NPF) Center of Excellence. Medical City Fort Worth is the only designated NPF Center of Excellence in Tarrant County.

The designation is awarded after a rigorous audit review to verify a facility provides multidisciplinary treatment of pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer, treating the "whole patient" with a focus on the best possible outcomes and improved quality of life. There are only 170 Centers of Excellence throughout the nation.

“We are proud to be designated as an NPF Center of Excellence,” says Medical City Fort Worth CEO Ben Coogan. “This designation, along with the combined strength of the facility in surgical oncology, colorectal surgery and the foundational elements for a strong cancer program offered by the Commission on Cancer accreditation, will allow for enhanced growth of the oncological program and further position Medical City Fort Worth as the destination of choice to treat certain cancers in Tarrant County."

An approved NPF Center of Excellence must meet criteria developed by a task force of subject matter experts and patient advocates. The criteria include having expert physician specialties on staff such as gastroenterologists, pancreas surgeons, interventional radiologists, and other patient-focused programs including pain management, psychosocial support, and more.

“This designation highlights and recognizes the exemplary work and dedication of the team in the development of high-quality, multidisciplinary care approach to benign and malignant pancreatic diseases,” says Suhail Sharif, MD, director of surgical oncology at Medical City Fort Worth. “Through this recognition, we hope to heighten the awareness and understanding of pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer and related conditions among community physicians, allied health professionals, patients, families and the public.”
