Medical City Fort Worth Expands Emergency Department Capacity

FORT WORTH Medical City Fort Worth celebrated the completion of a $750,000 emergency department expansion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, March 26. Hospital leaders, physicians and colleagues gathered to recognize this milestone in expanding emergency care capacity and supporting growing patient volumes.

The expansion adds 28 treatment spaces, including seven private patient rooms, two consultation rooms, two triage rooms and an expanded internal waiting area. The project also includes new equipment to enhance emergency care delivery.

The enhancements were developed in response to sustained increases in emergency department visits and inpatient volumes, creating the need for additional space to evaluate and treat patients.

We are seeing continued growth in emergency care needs across our community, and this expansion allows us to better meet that demand, says Brandy Stegall, chief nursing officer at Medical City Fort Worth. This project reflects our commitment to compassionate and patient-centered care, quality and listening to our teams when they identify opportunities to be the destination of choice for healthcare excellence.

Medical City Fort Worth First in Tarrant County to Support CAR T-Cell Recovery

FORT WORTH Albert Wayne Kidd recently received the news he had been hoping for: his scans were clear and he is cancer-free after undergoing chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy and follow-up care in Fort Worth. Medical City Fort Worth is the first hospital in Tarrant County to implement a patient monitoring and management protocol for chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy patients following outpatient infusions, reinforcing its commitment to delivering advanced oncology services in the region.

Medical City Fort Worth served as the hospital-based site for expected adverse event monitoring and inpatient management during the post-infusion phase of treatment for Kidd, a 62-year-old from Bowie, Texas. A longtime Tarrant County resident, Kidd said receiving care in Fort Worth was important to him because of his connection to the community and its proximity to his current home. This role is a critical component of the CAR-T therapy continuum of care and requires specialized clinical expertise, rapid-response capabilities and close coordination with certified CAR-T treatment centers.

Kidd says the care he received at Medical City Fort Worth made a difficult journey easier and he looks forward to getting back to everyday life with his family.

The program will significantly increase patient access to CAR-T therapy, an advanced form of cellular treatment that uses the bodys immune system to combat cancer. North Texas Woman Avoids Open-Heart Surgery After First Documented Catheter-Based Valve Treatment

FORT WORTH Tracia Davis, 40, of Euless thought she was having an asthma attack when she began struggling to breathe. Physicians soon discovered a blood clot obstructing her mechanical mitral valve, a rare and life-threatening condition that often requires emergency open-heart surgery.

Doctors told my family the usual options were very risky, Davis says. Im grateful they found another way.

To treat Davis, Medical City Fort Worth successfully performed the first documented stand-alone primary percutaneous transseptal mechanical thrombectomy for obstructive mechanical mitral valve thrombosis using cerebral embolic protection. This minimally invasive approach uses a catheter inserted through a vein in the leg and carefully guided to the atrial septum in the heart to remove the clot and restore blood flow, avoiding open-heart surgery. Protective filters were placed in arteries supplying the brain to reduce the risk of stroke during the procedure.

For Davis, traditional treatment was not considered safe. She had previously undergone two open-heart surgeries and had experienced a recent stroke with intracranial bleeding. Both repeat surgery and clot-dissolving medication carried significant risk.

This case required coordination across structural heart, cardiology and neurointerventional teams, says Farhan Ali, MD, medical director of the Structural Heart Program at Medical City Fort Worth. In a situation where conventional treatment posed elevated risk, a catheter-based approach allowed us to address the obstruction without repeat open-heart surgery.

The procedure highlights the strength of Medical City Fort Worths Structural Heart Program and its ability to manage complex valve emergencies within a comprehensive cardiovascular system of care. By aligning structural heart expertise with stroke intervention capabilities, the hospital advanced a coordinated treatment pathway for high-risk mechanical valve patients.

Fort Worth resident shares Texas Dentist of the Year honor

Dr. Partha Mukherji, clinical assistant professor in comprehensive dentistry at Texas A&M University College of Dentistry in Dallas, teaches dental students treatment fundamentals. However, his passion is advocating for the needs and interests of present and future general dentists.

That dedication was saluted recently in Austin as Mukherji and his longtime friend, Dr. Victor Rodriguez of Houston, owner of a dental practice in Houston and an adjunct professor at UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry, were named co-recipients of 2025 Texas Dentist of the Year at Texas Academy Awards, Texas Academy of General Dentistrys celebratory event. Each was honored for service to his community and the dental profession, commitment to continuing education, leadership and professional excellence.

Mukherji, who resides in Fort Worth, and Rodriguez were chosen from 13 nominees. Dr. Hanna Lindskog, Texas AGD president, praised them for dedication to patient care, mentorship and innovation.

Drs. Mukherji and Rodriguez motivate us all to reach higher and continue advancing the future of dentistry, Lindskog shared in a written statement.

Mukherji, a 2001 A&M Dentistry graduate, was nominated by Fort Worth Academy of General Dentistry, where hes a past president and former secretary/treasurer of Texas AGD. He serves as the Region 18 director of the Academy of General Dentistry, the national organization.

Texas AGD focuses on general dentistry and has more than 2,900 members. Dentist of the Year award winners are both general dentists and specialists.

Mukherji grew up in Bay City and completed his residency in 2002 at what's now known as UTHealth Houston.

He taught on a part-time basis at A&M Dentistry and served on Tarrant County Colleges registered dental assistant advisory board for several years before joining A&M Dentistrys faculty full time in April. Mukherji worked for six years at Harris Southwest Dental & Aesthetic Dental Innovations in Fort Worth, part of Heartland Dental. He also worked at Beyond Dental & Implant Center and M Dentistry, his own practice, both in Fort Worth.

He serves on Texas Dental Associations annual meeting council, where Mukherji will be vice chair for next years meeting in San Antonio. In addition, hes deputy regent for District 15 (Texas) International College of Dentists.

Professionally, I find the biggest joy in service..., Mukherji said. Im inspired by so many people whove been on my journey. From the platforms that Ive been given, I want to ensure that others are empowered to have a voice. In some shape, form or fashion, we are all in this together.

Dr. Erica Teixeira, head of comprehensive dentistry at A&M Dentistry, called him an invaluable member of the academic community. She said the award is a testament to Mukherjis commitment to excellence.

19 Local Non-Profits To Share $100,000 In Grants From Park Place Dealerships Seasons of Giving

This holiday season, 19 North Texas non-profits have been awarded a grant from Park Place Dealerships. Nearly 600 charitable organizations applied for a 2025 Season of Giving grant. The 19 organizations chosen align with one of Park Places Four Pillars of Giving: Arts, Education, Advocacy, and Medical Research.

With this years recipients, Park Place Dealerships has now awarded half a million dollars to 103 local nonprofits across North Texas since 2020, said Kara Connor, Community Engagement Manager for Park Place Dealerships. Each of these nonprofits create lasting change in our community and we are happy to bring awareness to another 19 that typically dont receive a lot of exposure.

Under Park Place Cares, Park Place Dealerships philanthropic arm, the Season of Giving program provides a one-time grant ranging from $2,500 to $10,000. 4th ANNUAL 9/11 MEMORIAL TOWER CLIMB AT CITY CENTER

City Center Fort Worth hosted the Fourth Annual 9/11 Memorial Tower Climb today, Saturday, September 13 in downtown Fort Worth. The event commemorated the lives lost on September 11, 2001, as hundreds of first responders ascended the Bank of America Tower at 301 Commerce Street.

The climb began at 8:47 am, followed by a moment of silence at 8:46 am, marking the time American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

Participants from City Center Security, local law enforcement and fire departments climbed to the 30th floor in the tower three times, then on the fourth round stopped at level 20, replicating the 110-story climb of the World Trade Center. Each climber wore a lanyard bearing the photo and name of a first responder who was lost in the line of duty on September 11, 2001.

The community showed up and participated in the day's festivities. Fort Worth Police Department displayed their Lenco BearCat armored vehicle used by its SWAT team and the Fort Worth PD Recruiter truck. Dogs from their Critical Incident team were also onsite allowing attendees to interact with the dogs for a source of comfort and companionship throughout the event.

The Fort Worth Fire Department had their Fire Safety House onsite for families to experience and even try to get out of a room with smoke. In addition, the North Richland Hills Fire Department had a fire truck on display.

Attendees enjoyed complimentary ice cream from La Creamian and Starbucks coffee during the event.

City Center displayed a 20x20 quilt featuring the American flag comprised of individual photos of those who perished on 9/11.

Of the 2,977 victims killed in the 2001 attacks, 415 were first responders, including 343 firefighters; 37 Port Authority and New Jersey police officers; 23 New York City police officers; eight private EMTs and paramedics; three New York State Court Officers; one New York Fire Patrol officer and one FBI Special Agent.

Over the course of three hours in 2001, 121 engine companies, 62 ladder companies and 27 fire officers were deployed to the scene. All off-duty firefighters were recalledthe first time the FDNY issued a total recall in more than 30 years.

City Center Fort Worth will host the Fourth Annual 9/11 Memorial Tower Climb on Saturday, September 13 in downtown Fort Worth. The event will commemorate the lives lost on September 11, 2001, as hundreds of first responders ascend the Bank of America Tower at 301 Commerce Street.

Certified first responders and law enforcement can register in advance at citycenterfw.com/memorial-tower-climb. The $50 registration fee will be donated to a non-profit that supports first responders. Check-in begins at 6:30 am on September 13, and the climb will begin at 8:47 am following a moment of silence at 8:46 am, marking the time American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

Participants from City Center Security, local law enforcement and fire departments will climb to the 30^th floor in the tower three times, then on the fourth round will stop at level 20, replicating the 110-story climb of the World Trade Center. Medical City Fort Worth Performs First Tricuspid Valve Repair in Tarrant County

FORT WORTH A 69-year-old woman from Fort Worth is back to living a full and active life after becoming the first in Tarrant County tobenefit froma percutaneous tricuspid valve repair performed at Medical City Fort Worth. This minimally invasive procedure is an important advance because it can eliminate the need for open heart surgery.

Tricuspid valve disease occurs when the heart's tricuspid valve fails to close completely, causing blood to flow in the wrong direction. This can potentially lead to life-threatening heart failure. Symptoms include:

Swelling in the legs, ankles, feet and abdomen
Fatigue, weakness
Shortness of breath

A multidisciplinary team, including interventional cardiologists and cardiac imagers, used leading-edge 4D intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) technology, which uses sound waves to produce images, for enhanced precision.

'ESCAPE FOM EXTINCTION REWILING' gets a screening home in Fort Worth

New film spotlights rewilding, a critical, nature-first approach to protecting threatened and endangered species

American Humane, the nations first national humane organization and the worlds largest certifier of animal welfare practices, will premiere its latest documentary, ESCAPE FROM EXTINCTION REWILDING. The film, distributed by Western Films, starts its theatrical run on Sept. 27 in Dallas-Fort Worth. In addition to the screenings at Angelika Film CenterDallas, it will screen at Cinemark Rave Ridgmar 13 and XD in Fort Worth. The Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit has a four-star rating on Charity Navigator. Proceeds from the film go to American Humanes animal welfare efforts.

As we stand at the precipice of what many scientists call the sixth mass extinction, there is an even greater need to bolster conservation efforts globally, said Robin Ganzert, president and CEO of American Humane and the films executive producer. Rewilding is a vital approach to conservation that allows us to restore natural ecosystems and protect these vulnerable species.

We hope that this documentary will not only highlight the significance of rewilding but bring together film-goers across the country, and worldwide, in support of the humane treatment of animals.

While Dallas Zoo has its conservation mission for the preservation and protection of whooping cranes, the Fort Worth Zoo was featured in the series' previous installment, ESCAPE FROM EXTINCTION (2020), which showcased the zoos critical conservation efforts for elephants and reptiles.

Fort Worth Zoo is active in species reintroduction both locally and globally - beginning the reintroduction project of the state reptile, the Texas-horned lizards. The program is operated alongside the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

With nearly 1 million species at risk, the documentary spotlights a nature-first approach to conservation, aiming to halt the alarming loss of biodiversity. It follows wildlife experts and conservationists who help rewild endangered species around the world by restoring and protecting natural ecosystems and allowing them to return to their wild state.

Many people are passionate about preventing animal extinction, but the magnitude of the problem can feel overwhelming, said Matthew Brady, the filmmaker. In this film, we tackle the issue by presenting practical, actionable case study solutions that make a real differenceall brought to life by the enchanting voice of Meryl Streep.

City Center to Host 3rd Annual 9/11 Memorial Tower Climb on Saturday, September 14

City Center Fort Worth will host the 3rd annual 9/11 Memorial Tower Climb on Saturday, September 14 in downtown Fort Worth. The event will commemorate the lives lost on September 11, 2001, as hundreds of first responders ascend the Bank of America Tower at 301 Commerce Street.

First responders from across North Texas can register in advance at citycenterfw.com/memorial-tower-climb. The $50 registration fee will be donated to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the Brotherhood of the Fallen.

Participants from City Center Security, local law enforcement and fire departments will climb the tower's 36 stories three times, replicating the 110-story climb of the World Trade Center. Each climber will wear a lanyard bearing the photo and name of a first responder who was lost in the line of duty on September 11, 2001.

This year, the event has expanded to include a larger 'community' component. The Fort Worth Police Department will bring the dogs from their Critical Incident team. The dogs will be available for participants and supporters to interact with and enjoy, offering a source of comfort and companionship throughout the event.

The Fort Worth Fire Department will have their Fire Safety House onsite for families to experience and even try to get out of a room with smoke. In addition, the Fort Worth Fire Department will have an ambulance onsite for families to explore inside and ask questions of the EMTs.

Also new this year, City Center will display a 20x20 quilt featuring the American flag comprised of individual photos of those who perished on 9/11. The quilt will be on display in the Bank of America Tower lobby for public viewing from September 9 to September 28.

Check-in begins at 7 am on September 14, and the event will commence at 8:25 am followed by a moment of silence at 8:46 am, marking the time American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center. The climb will begin at 8:47 am.

Stegall brings more than 27 years of nursing experience, including two decades of leadership within Medical City Healthcare. Before joining Medical City Fort Worth, she served as CNO at Medical City Denton and was instrumental in enhancing patient care and nursing satisfaction. During her tenure, Medical City Denton received the HCA Healthcare Unit of Distinction award for emergency services, heart and vascular care and intensive care for three consecutive years.

FORT WORTH Medical City Fort Worth donated $5,500 and 1,600 pounds of food to the Tarrant Area Food Bank, contributions that will provide more than 30,000 meals to families in need. These donations, part of Medical City Healthcares Summer of Service and Healthy Food for Healthier Tomorrows initiatives, underscore the hospitals commitment to addressing food insecurity in Fort Worth and surrounding areas.

We believe in showing up for our community and caring for them like family, says John Hoover, CEO of Medical City Fort Worth. Our monetary donation will help provide more than 30,000 meals to our community. This contribution and the 1,600 pounds of food collected through our summer food drive reinforce our commitment to fighting food insecurity and building healthier tomorrows.

More than 30 Medical City Fort Worth colleagues gathered at the Tarrant Area Food Bank to present the donation check, assist with quality control, and pack bags of fruit for families in need. This volunteer activity was the highlight of the hospital's Summer of Service projects, demonstrating its dedication to community support.

The Tarrant Area Food Bank plays a vital role in the fight against hunger in North Texas. Serving 13 counties, the food bank distributes nutritious food to local pantries, shelters, and community kitchens, feeding thousands of families each month. Their comprehensive programs also address the root causes of hunger by providing education and resources to those in need.

In addition to assisting the Tarrant Area Food Bank, Medical City Fort Worth colleagues replenished a local outdoor community pantry in the Near Southside area of Fort Worth.

Medical City Fort Worths Summer of Service initiative is an annual program encouraging employees to participate in various volunteer activities and community service projects. WAYNE: AN AMERICAN EXPERIENCE MUSEUM ON JULY 27

No one needed to tell John Wayne to cowboy up. It was the role he was born to play. Of the many characters he portrayed in a career that spanned 50 years and an astounding 175 films, arguably none are more beloved than those he rode to stardom in some of the most iconic classic Westerns of all time. Colonels, lawmen, gunslingers, men of shaky reputation Duke could do it all. And practically did, defining the American cowboy.

On Saturday, July 27, John Wayne: An American Experience, the museum that follows Dukes life and legacy, will celebrate the National Day of the Cowboy. Guests are invited to see the recently expanded museum, which has grown by 30% to nearly 10,000 square feet of exhibit space and 4,000 square feet of newly outfitted retail space, John Wayne Stock & Supply.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., guests can participate in activations throughout the museum and the store. These include tastings of Duke Spirits, Wayne Family Estates wines and Gold Handle Coffee; chain-stitching, hat decorating and a chance to learn more about John Wayne Cancer Foundation, the charity created by Dukes children after his death in 1979 from stomach cancer. John Wayne: An American Experience is structured to give guests an intimate tour of the life of John Wayne. The museum has recently been expanded and part of the added space will be home to new, rotating exhibits. The first rotating exhibit, on display through Dec. 31, 2025, is The John Wayne Gun Collection - Guns that Won the West. The unique, curated collection of firearms spans four decades of John Wayne films, from The Big Trail (1930) to The Shootist (1976). This exhibit, curated in collaboration with John Wayne Enterprises and the National Firearms Museum (NRA), features highlights including the Remington 1861 New Model Army used by John Wayne in his first starring role, The Big Trail; the short-barreled large loop Winchester Model 1892 used in True Grit, Big Jake, Rooster Cogburn and The Shootist; and a Colt 1890 Gatling Gun used in The War Wagon and Rooster Cogburn.

The second rotating exhibit, also on display through Dec. 31, 2025, is John Wayne Family Portfolio Collection from Andy Warhols Cowboys & Indians Series. This 10-artwork collection showcases Warhols depictions of Duke, Annie Oakley, General Custer, Teddy Roosevelt, Geronimo, Kachina Dolls, Northwest Coast Mask, Mother and Child, a Plains Indian Shield and an Indian Head Nickel.

2024 Solar Car Challenge Brings Teens from Across the U.S. to Fort Worth

Thirty-two teams of high school students from across the United States are preparing to head to Texas for the 31^st annual Solar Car Challenge, during which they will race around Texas Motor Speedway for four days to see which teams car goes the greatest distance. The race begins July 14.

The Solar Car Challenge, which is a finalist in the 2024 D CEO Nonprofit and Corporate Citizenship Awards in the Innovation and Education category, was established in 1993 by educator Dr. Lehman Marks. The program is designed to help motivate students in the fields of science, technology and alternative energy. Preparations for this years race began with educational workshops last September, though it can take teams two to three years to see their ideas come to fruition. Students built the cars using their own ideas and starting from scratch. Before the race, their cars will face scrutineering rigorous evaluation by a panel of experienced judges at the speedway from July 11-13.

During the race, car breakdowns, weather conditions and team experience will limit the number of miles a team can drive each day. The team driving the most miles accumulated over the four days of racing at Texas Motor Speedway will be declared the winner.

Students who take part in the Solar Car Challenge have a 23% greater chance of going into a STEM career than students participating in other STEM programs. This is the top project-based STEM program in the country, Marks said. We teach the kids how to build a plan, come up with a budget, fundraise, how to engineer the car and manage the project, all while theyre learning about how to harness energy from the sun to make a car go down the road.

This years Solar Car Challenge will feature 32 teams from 12 states, including 16 teams from Texas, four teams from California, two each from Kentucky and Florida, and one each from Idaho, Maryland, Connecticut, Missouri, Oregon, Washington, Arkansas and Michigan. There are teams in various stages of development in 39 states, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Spain and Singapore. A cross-country version of the race occurs biannually, with alternating years showcasing cars on the track at Texas Motor Speedway.

This is the brain sport, Marks said. Its not just about building the car, but how to drive that car, solve the inevitable problems that happen with the car, and keeping your team intact through four grueling days of racing. Doing the Solar Car Challenge makes these students better equipped to face the challenges theyll have in life.

FORT WORTH Matthew Sartorius has been named chief operating officer (COO) at Medical City Fort Worth.

In this role, Sartorius will oversee hospital operations and work closely with medical staff leadership, senior leadership and management to ensure high-quality, compassionate care and unparalleled patient service.

Before joining Medical City Fort Worth, Sartorius served as COO for Abrazo Arrowhead Hospital, Abrazo Surprise Hospital and an off-campus emergency department.
