However, within clinical dermatology and emergency medicine, minor burn treatment requires a precise, scientific approach to prevent cellular damage from spreading downward into deeper tissue layers. Even when a burn only affects the epidermis (the outermost layer of skin), the initial heat energy triggers a localized inflammatory cascade that can compromise the skin's natural protective barrier if left unmanaged.

The primary objective during the early stages of a thermal injury is to halt a process known as "zone progression." When heat strikes the skin, it creates three distinct structural zones: a central zone of immediate cellular death, a surrounding zone of severe inflammation and sluggish blood flow, and an outer zone of mild tissue irritation. Without professional intervention, the intense heat trapped within the tissue can continue to radiate inward, turning a superficial, first-degree injury into a more complicated, blistering second-degree wound over the course of 24 to 48 hours.

Timely assessment is essential because burn depth is not always immediately visible. In many cases, the full extent of tissue injury evolves gradually as microvascular damage progresses. What appears as mild redness at first can later develop swelling, blister formation, and increased pain intensity as inflammatory mediators accumulate in the affected area. This is why early cooling, sterile protection, and clinical evaluation are strongly recommended in medical practice.

The Physics of Diagnostic Choice: When Radiography is Required

While thermal and chemical injuries are primarily localized to the skin and sub-epidermal layers, complex trauma often involves multiple overlapping internal injuries. If a patient experiences a severe flash burn from an explosion, structural fire, or high-velocity industrial accident, medical teams cannot focus solely on topical burn treatment. They must immediately look for hidden internal trauma, toxic smoke inhalation injuries, or blast-induced pressure waves.

In such cases, diagnostic imaging plays a crucial role. Radiographic evaluation may be required to rule out fractures, internal bleeding, or foreign body penetration. Inhalation injuries, in particular, can present with delayed respiratory distress due to airway inflammation caused by hot gases or toxic particulates. These complications are not always visible externally, which is why clinical decision-making must prioritize both surface injury and systemic risk assessment.

Oxygen saturation monitoring, airway evaluation, and in some cases bronchoscopy are used to determine whether inhalation injury has occurred. Early detection significantly improves patient outcomes by allowing rapid intervention before respiratory compromise becomes severe.

Understanding Burn Depth and Healing Stages

Burn injuries are typically classified into degrees based on depth of tissue involvement. First-degree burns affect only the epidermis and are usually characterized by redness, mild swelling, and pain without blistering. Second-degree burns extend into the dermis and often result in blister formation, increased sensitivity, and a higher risk of infection. Third-degree burns involve full-thickness destruction of skin layers and require advanced medical and sometimes surgical intervention.

Healing occurs in phases. The inflammatory phase begins immediately after injury and involves immune cell activation and blood vessel dilation. This is followed by the proliferative phase, where new tissue formation begins through collagen deposition and skin cell regeneration. Finally, the remodeling phase strengthens the newly formed tissue over weeks or months.

Proper wound care during each phase is critical. Improper handling in the early inflammatory phase can significantly delay healing and increase the risk of scarring or pigment changes. Maintaining a clean, moist, and protected wound environment supports faster epithelial regeneration and reduces complications.

Overcoming Misconceptions of Home Remedy Interventions

One of the greatest risks to a superficial thermal wound is the use of unsterilized or inappropriate home remedies. Common misconceptions often lead individuals to apply substances such as butter, toothpaste, ice, or thick petroleum-based products directly onto burns. While these methods may provide temporary comfort, they can worsen tissue damage.

The Trap of Extreme Cold: Applying direct ice causes intense vasoconstriction, reducing blood flow to already stressed tissue. This deprives cells of oxygen and can deepen the injury.

The Problem with Thick Barriers: Heavy, non-medical ointments can trap heat within the skin, preventing proper dissipation and prolonging thermal damage at a microscopic level.

The Risk of Bacterial Contamination: Non-sterile substances introduce environmental bacteria into compromised skin barriers, significantly increasing the likelihood of infection, delayed healing, and possible scarring.

Medical-grade burn care focuses on controlled cooling using sterile saline or clean running water, followed by the application of antimicrobial dressings designed to protect without sealing in residual heat.

Infection Control and Wound Protection

Infection is one of the most significant complications in burn injuries. Damaged skin loses its natural protective function, allowing bacteria to enter more easily. Signs of infection include increasing redness, swelling, warmth, pus formation, and worsening pain after the initial injury period.

To prevent infection, sterile dressings are applied and changed regularly under controlled conditions. In some cases, topical antibiotics may be prescribed depending on wound severity and patient risk factors. Maintaining proper hygiene and avoiding unnecessary exposure to contaminants are essential parts of recovery.

Tetanus status is also reviewed in many burn cases, especially when the injury is caused by outdoor or contaminated sources. Booster vaccination may be recommended if immunization is not up to date.

Pain Management and Patient Comfort

Burn injuries can be significantly painful due to nerve endings being exposed or irritated. Pain management strategies may include oral analgesics, topical anesthetics, and cooling dressings. In clinical settings, pain is carefully monitored to ensure patient comfort while avoiding overuse of medications.

Reducing pain is not only about comfort but also about improving healing outcomes. Lower stress levels and controlled inflammation contribute to more stable recovery and reduced tissue damage progression.

Recovery and Long-Term Skin Health

Recovery from minor burns usually occurs within days to weeks, depending on depth and care quality. During this period, skin may remain sensitive, dry, or discolored. Proper moisturization, sun protection, and avoidance of re-injury are important for restoring normal skin function.

In some cases, temporary pigmentation changes may occur, especially in individuals with darker skin tones. These changes often resolve gradually over time, but proper wound care reduces their severity.

Scar prevention strategies include keeping the wound moist, avoiding picking at healing tissue, and using silicone-based dressings if recommended by a healthcare provider.

Prevention and Safety Awareness

Most thermal injuries are preventable with basic safety measures. In kitchens, using protective gloves, careful handling of hot liquids, and maintaining awareness of open flames can significantly reduce risk. In industrial settings, proper protective equipment and safety training are essential.

Sun-related burns can be prevented through sunscreen use, protective clothing, and limiting exposure during peak UV hours. Prevention remains the most effective strategy for reducing burn-related complications.

Conclusion: Protecting Skin Integrity from the Start

Your skin is the body's primary protective barrier, and even small injuries require appropriate care to ensure proper healing. Early intervention, sterile treatment, and informed clinical evaluation all contribute to preventing complications and promoting healthy recovery.

At professional emergency care facilities, burn treatment is approached with medical precision, ensuring that both visible damage and hidden tissue risks are addressed promptly. With proper care, even superficial burns can heal efficiently, minimizing pain, infection risk, and long-term scarring.

The Emotional Side of Children's Emergency Care What Great Facilities Do Differently

When a child is seriously ill or injured, the clinical focus is naturally placed on physiological stabilization. Doctors check vital signs, set fractured bones, and administer medications to fight infections. However, there is an equally critical component of medicine that is frequently overlooked in traditional, high-volume emergency rooms: the psychological impact of the medical environment itself. True excellence in Children's Emergency Care requires an understanding that physical healing and emotional security are deeply intertwined.

For a young child, a sudden trip to a hospital can be a deeply terrifying experience. The combination of bright fluorescent lights, loud alarms, rushing staff, and unfamiliar medical instruments can induce a state of acute sensory overload. This fear does not just cause emotional distress; it actively complicates the medical team's ability to deliver accurate care.

The Physiology of Childhood Fear

When a child is consumed by panic, their body enters a classic "fight-or-flight" response. This physiological shift causes immediate changes in their baseline clinical metrics:

Elevated Heart Rate: Tachycardia caused by anxiety can mask or mimic signs of dehydration, shock, or infection.

Increased Respiratory Rate: Hyperventilation due to fear makes it difficult for a physician to accurately diagnose genuine respiratory distress or asthma exacerbations.

Muscle Tension: Rigid muscles can skew the results of abdominal palpations or orthopedic evaluations, potentially hiding physical symptoms.

By prioritizing a calm, gentle approach to Children's Emergency Care, a facility can neutralize this fear response. When a child feels safe, their vital signs return to a true baseline, allowing the medical team to make diagnostic decisions based on accurate physiological data rather than a stress response.

Rethinking the Diagnostic Experience

Medical imaging is one of the most common sources of anxiety for young patients. Being asked to hold completely still inside a large, loud machine can cause immediate panic. To protect a child's emotional well-being, a dedicated facility will alter the entire imaging process.

For instance, when an internal injury requires advanced imaging, specialized technicians take the time to explain the machine in non-frightening, age-appropriate terms. To learn more about how modern medical facilities ensure patient safety and comfort during advanced imaging procedures, it is highly beneficial to read through the 10 essential things you must know about CT scans to understand the rigorous safety parameters and precision adjustments used for younger patients.

De-Escalating Stress for the Whole Family

Children are highly intuitive and look directly to their parents to gauge whether they are safe. If a parent is highly stressed, anxious, or left in the dark about medical decisions, the childs fear will mirror that energy. Exceptional emergency pediatric care must therefore extend to the caregivers.

Great emergency facilities change the dynamic by using simple, transparent communication:

Avoiding Medical Jargon: Explaining diagnoses and treatment options in clear, conversational language that both the parent and child can grasp.

Visual Demonstrations: Showing a child how a stethoscope works on a stuffed animal before placing it on their chest.

Family-Centered Inclusion: Keeping parents at the bedside for every single step of the process, from blood draws to splinting.

Do This. Not That. Know When to Go.

Burns happen fast. A splash of hot oil. A careless touch of a hot pan. A few seconds of contact with a curling iron. One moment everything is fine and the next you are dealing with a painful, stinging wound and a head full of questions about what to do next.

The good news is that most minor burns can be managed effectively at home if you know the right steps. The bad news is that most people do not know the right steps. They reach for butter, ice, or toothpaste. They pop the blister. They wrap the wound too tightly. And a burn that should have healed cleanly in a week turns into an infected wound that ends up in an emergency room.

This guide is simple and direct. What to do for minor burn treatment. What never to do. And the clear signs that your burn has crossed the line from minor to medical emergency.

First How Do You Know If a Burn Is Minor?

Not every burn can be treated at home. Before you do anything, you need to assess what you are dealing with.

A minor burn also called a first-degree burn or a small second-degree burn has these characteristics. The skin is red and painful. There may be small blisters. The affected area is smaller than the palm of your hand. It is not on the face, hands, feet, genitals, or a major joint.

If the burn is larger than your palm, is on a sensitive body part, looks white or brown, or does not hurt despite appearing serious stop reading and go to an emergency room. That is not a minor burn.

Do This The Right Steps for Minor Burn Treatment

Step one is the most important thing you will do for your burn. Cool it immediately with lukewarm running water. Not cold water. Not ice. Lukewarm. Run it gently over the burn for a full 20 minutes.

Why 20 minutes? Because heat continues to damage tissue even after the heat source is removed. The water draws out that residual heat and stops the damage from going deeper. Starting this process within the first few minutes makes a measurable difference in how deep the final injury goes and how quickly it heals.

While the water is running, remove any jewelry or tight clothing near the burn. Swelling will develop, and anything constricting will become a problem.

After 20 minutes of cooling, cover the burn loosely with a clean, non-fluffy material. Cling film laid gently over the wound not wrapped tightly works well. A clean plastic bag works for hand burns. The goal is to protect the wound from contamination without trapping heat or pressing on the damaged tissue.

For pain, take ibuprofen or acetaminophen in the appropriate dose. Ibuprofen is preferred because it also reduces inflammation.

Over the following days, keep the wound clean and change the dressing daily. Watch for signs of infection increasing redness, swelling, warmth, or any discharge that is cloudy or has an odor.

Do Not Do This The Minor Burn Treatment Mistakes That Make Things Worse

Butter, ghee, coconut oil, or any cooking fat. These are the most common burn remedy mistakes worldwide. They feel soothing because they are slightly cool but they trap heat in the wound, create the perfect environment for bacteria to grow, and make professional wound assessment significantly harder. Never put food products on a burn.

Ice or ice water. Ice causes vasoconstriction it reduces blood flow to the damaged tissue and can cause frostbite on top of an already injured surface. The only thing that goes on a burn is lukewarm water.

Toothpaste. Widely shared on social media as a burn remedy. It does not work. It irritates the wound and creates an infection risk.

Popping blisters. Blisters that form over burns are protective they create a sterile barrier between the raw wound and the environment. Popping them removes that protection and dramatically increases infection risk. Leave them alone.

Tight wrapping. Wrapping a burn too tightly restricts circulation, increases pressure on damaged tissue, and slows healing. Always cover loosely.

Know When to Go Signs Your Burn Needs Emergency Care

Minor burn treatment at home is appropriate for small, superficial burns in healthy adults. But certain signs mean the burn needs professional evaluation and some of them need it immediately.

Go to an emergency room right away if the burn covers a large area larger than your palm. Go if the burn is on the face, hands, feet, genitals, or over a major joint like the knee or elbow. Go if the burn looks white, brown, or leathery or if it does not hurt despite appearing serious. These are signs of a deeper burn that cannot be managed at home.

Go if the burn was caused by a chemical or electrical source regardless of how small it looks. Chemical burns continue to damage tissue after the source is removed. Electrical burns can cause internal injury that has nothing to do with what you see on the skin.

Go if you are treating a burn in a child under five or an adult over 65. Their skin is thinner and more vulnerable than healthy adult skin. What appears minor in a healthy adult can be significantly more serious in these age groups.

Go if signs of infection develop at any point during healing increasing pain after an initial period of improvement, redness spreading beyond the burn edges, cloudy discharge, or fever.

When you are unsure whether a burn needs professional care go. Emergency physicians would rather reassure you than treat a complication that developed because you waited too long.
FORT WORTH Medical City Fort Worth celebrated the completion of a $750,000 emergency department expansion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, March 26. Hospital leaders, physicians and colleagues gathered to recognize this milestone in expanding emergency care capacity and supporting growing patient volumes.

The expansion adds 28 treatment spaces, including seven private patient rooms, two consultation rooms, two triage rooms and an expanded internal waiting area. The project also includes new equipment to enhance emergency care delivery.

The enhancements were developed in response to sustained increases in emergency department visits and inpatient volumes, creating the need for additional space to evaluate and treat patients.

We are seeing continued growth in emergency care needs across our community, and this expansion allows us to better meet that demand, says Brandy Stegall, chief nursing officer at Medical City Fort Worth. This project reflects our commitment to compassionate and patient-centered care, quality and listening to our teams when they identify opportunities to be the destination of choice for healthcare excellence.

The project originated from frontline team input and reflects collaboration between clinical and operational leadership.

This expansion is part of Medical City Fort Worths ongoing commitment to expanding access to care and supporting the healthcare needs of the Fort Worth community.

Medical City Fort Worth served as the hospital-based site for expected adverse event monitoring and inpatient management during the post-infusion phase of treatment for Kidd, a 62-year-old from Bowie, Texas. A longtime Tarrant County resident, Kidd said receiving care in Fort Worth was important to him because of his connection to the community and its proximity to his current home. This role is a critical component of the CAR-T therapy continuum of care and requires specialized clinical expertise, rapid-response capabilities and close coordination with certified CAR-T treatment centers.

Kidd says the care he received at Medical City Fort Worth made a difficult journey easier and he looks forward to getting back to everyday life with his family.

The program will significantly increase patient access to CAR-T therapy, an advanced form of cellular treatment that uses the bodys immune system to combat cancer. CAR-T therapy works by modifying a patients T-cells so they can identify and eliminate cancer cells, offering a leading-edge, highly personalized approach to oncology care.

By extending access to CAR-T therapy, we are advancing our mission to bring innovative, life-saving treatments closer to where our patients live, says Bibas Reddy, DO, oncology medical director. Ensuring that hospital-based teams are fully equipped to monitor and manage patients during the post-infusion phase is critical to promoting safe recovery and achieving the best possible outcomes.

By supporting this innovative cellular treatment technology, Medical City Fort Worth reinforces its commitment to system-wide excellence and advancing care and research in North Texas.

Supporting patients through advanced therapies like CAR-T treatment requires exceptional teamwork, clinical readiness and strong partnerships, says John Hoover, Medical City Fort Worth CEO. Our investment in these capabilities strengthens our systems of care and access to specialized care for patients throughout North Texas.

Through its oncology program, Medical City Fort Worth continues to invest in specialized training, infrastructure and multidisciplinary collaboration to support emerging therapies and evolving standards of care for patients across Tarrant County and surrounding communities.

Medical City Fort Worth is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, demonstrating its commitment to high-quality, multidisciplinary, patient-centered cancer care and continuous performance improvement.

Physicians soon discovered a blood clot obstructing her mechanical mitral valve, a rare and life-threatening condition that often requires emergency open-heart surgery.

Doctors told my family the usual options were very risky, Davis says. Im grateful they found another way.

To treat Davis, Medical City Fort Worth successfully performed the first documented stand-alone primary percutaneous transseptal mechanical thrombectomy for obstructive mechanical mitral valve thrombosis using cerebral embolic protection. This minimally invasive approach uses a catheter inserted through a vein in the leg and carefully guided to the atrial septum in the heart to remove the clot and restore blood flow, avoiding open-heart surgery. Protective filters were placed in arteries supplying the brain to reduce the risk of stroke during the procedure.

For Davis, traditional treatment was not considered safe. She had previously undergone two open-heart surgeries and had experienced a recent stroke with intracranial bleeding. Both repeat surgery and clot-dissolving medication carried significant risk.

This case required coordination across structural heart, cardiology and neurointerventional teams, says Farhan Ali, MD, medical director of the Structural Heart Program at Medical City Fort Worth. In a situation where conventional treatment posed elevated risk, a catheter-based approach allowed us to address the obstruction without repeat open-heart surgery.

The procedure highlights the strength of Medical City Fort Worths Structural Heart Program and its ability to manage complex valve emergencies within a comprehensive cardiovascular system of care. By aligning structural heart expertise with stroke intervention capabilities, the hospital advanced a coordinated treatment pathway for high-risk mechanical valve patients.

The case reflects Medical City Fort Worths focus on innovation to advance and improve care delivery across generations for patients with complex heart conditions.
According to the latest data from the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR), Medical City Fort Worth is:

No. 1 in Texas for shortest wait time to receive a deceased donor kidney transplant

No. 1 in Texas for one-year post-transplant kidney survival

These rankings reflect the institutes commitment to exceptional patient outcomes, innovative transplant care and life-saving treatment advancements.

Medical City Fort Worth has earned its reputation as the destination of choice for kidney transplant care in Texas, says John Hoover, Medical City Fort Worth CEO. Patients come here because they know they will receive exceptional, life-saving and timely care with outcomes that surpass national standards.

For kidney transplant candidates, the measure of receiving a deceased donor transplant faster has a significant impact on survival after listing. A shorter wait time can mean a life-saving transplant sooner, while strong survival rates ensure the best possible long-term outcomes.

Medical City Fort Worth has consistently maintained one-year survival rates that rank among the top transplant programs in the country. In partnership with Medical City Dallas, the two programs performed 227 kidney transplants in the most recent reporting period, including 73 from living donors. As part of Medical City Healthcares comprehensive system of care, the programs share resources, data and best practices to deliver outstanding results.

This minimally invasive procedure is an important advance because it can eliminate the need for open heart surgery.

Tricuspid valve disease occurs when the heart's tricuspid valve fails to close completely, causing blood to flow in the wrong direction. This can potentially lead to life-threatening heart failure. Symptoms include:

Swelling in the legs, ankles, feet and abdomen

Fatigue, weakness

Shortness of breath

A multidisciplinary team, including interventional cardiologists and cardiac imagers, used leading-edge 4D intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) technology, which uses sound waves to produce images, for enhanced precision.

This important milestone demonstrates our commitment to offering the most advanced cardiac care to our patients, says Farhan Ali, MD, medical director of the Structural Heart Program at Medical City Fort Worth. Our ability to treat all major heart valves using minimally invasive techniques truly sets us apart, providing patients with systems of care that provide better outcomes and faster recoveries.

Medical City Fort Worths structural heart program is the only comprehensive program in Fort Worth and Tarrant County capable of treating all major heart valves through minimally invasive procedures. The program is a pioneer in regionally, performing Fort Worths first transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and left atrial appendage closure nearly a decade ago.

Medical City Fort Worth is proud to lead the way in advanced structural heart care, says John Hoover, Medical City Fort Worths CEO. This achievement is another reason our community turns to us as the destination of choice for heart care excellence in Fort Worth and beyond.

This designation honors the hospitals exceptional nursing practices, leadership and dedication to outstanding patient care.

Magnet recognition affirms our commitment to being the destination of choice for healthcare excellence, says John Hoover, Medical City Fort Worth CEO. It reflects the unparalleled dedication of our nurses and team members who consistently show up to deliver exceptional care.

The American Nurses Credentialing Centers Magnet Recognition Program® distinguishes healthcare organizations that meet rigorous standards for nursing excellence. Only 67 hospitals in Texas and 614 healthcare organizations nationally have achieved Magnet recognition.

Magnet recognition is a voluntary credentialing program determined by the American Nurses Credentialing Centers Magnet Recognition Program which ensures rigorous standards for nursing excellence are met. It is the highest honor a healthcare organization can receive for professional nursing practice.

This honor highlights the compassion and expertise our nurses bring in every action, every patient, every time, says Medical City Fort Worth Chief Nursing Officer Brandy Stegall. We are proud of their commitment to excellence always.

The process begins with the submission of written documentation demonstrating qualitative and quantitative evidence regarding the culture of nursing to promote professional development, patient outcomes, knowledge generation and dissemination of evidence-based practices.

Hospitals seeking to reapply for Magnet recognition must provide documented evidence of how Magnet concepts, performance, and quality were sustained and further solidified in the four years since the hospital received its initial recognition. Medical City Fort Worth received its first designation in 2010.

BioNTX Announces the 2024 Dennis K.
New film spotlights rewilding, a critical, nature-first approach to protecting threatened and endangered species

American Humane, the nations first national humane organization and the worlds largest certifier of animal welfare practices, will premiere its latest documentary, ESCAPE FROM EXTINCTION REWILDING. The film, distributed by Western Films, starts its theatrical run on Sept. 27 in Dallas-Fort Worth. In addition to the screenings at Angelika Film CenterDallas, it will screen at Cinemark Rave Ridgmar 13 and XD in Fort Worth. For tickets go to https://www.fandango.com/escape-from-extinction-rewilding-2024-237644/movie-overview and https://www.cinemark.com/movies/escape-from-extinction-rewilding.

The theater is at 2300 Green Oaks Road.

The Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit has a four-star rating on Charity Navigator. Proceeds from the film go to American Humanes animal welfare efforts.

As we stand at the precipice of what many scientists call the sixth mass extinction, there is an even greater need to bolster conservation efforts globally, said Robin Ganzert, president and CEO of American Humane and the films executive producer. Rewilding is a vital approach to conservation that allows us to restore natural ecosystems and protect these vulnerable species.

We hope that this documentary will not only highlight the significance of rewilding but bring together film-goers across the country, and worldwide, in support of the humane treatment of animals.

While Dallas Zoo has its conservation mission for the preservation and protection of whooping cranes, the Fort Worth Zoo was featured in the series' previous installment, ESCAPE FROM EXTINCTION (2020), which showcased the zoos critical conservation efforts for elephants and reptiles.

Fort Worth Zoo is active in species reintroduction both locally and globally - beginning the reintroduction project of the state reptile, the Texas-horned lizards. The program is operated alongside the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

With nearly 1 million species at risk, the documentary spotlights a nature-first approach to conservation, aiming to halt the alarming loss of biodiversity. It follows wildlife experts and conservationists who help rewild endangered species around the world by restoring and protecting natural ecosystems and allowing them to return to their wild state.

Many people are passionate about preventing animal extinction, but the magnitude of the problem can feel overwhelming, said Matthew Brady, the filmmaker. In this film, we tackle the issue by presenting practical, actionable case study solutions that make a real differenceall brought to life by the enchanting voice of Meryl Streep.

North Texas First Responders Invited to Register for Memorial Tower Climb in Downtown Fort Worth

City Center Fort Worth will host the 3rd annual 9/11 Memorial Tower Climb on Saturday, September 14 in downtown Fort Worth. The event will commemorate the lives lost on September 11, 2001, as hundreds of first responders ascend the Bank of America Tower at 301 Commerce Street.

First responders from across North Texas can register in advance at citycenterfw.com/memorial-tower-climb. The $50 registration fee will be donated to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the Brotherhood of the Fallen.

Participants from City Center Security, local law enforcement and fire departments will climb the tower's 36 stories three times, replicating the 110-story climb of the World Trade Center. Each climber will wear a lanyard bearing the photo and name of a first responder who was lost in the line of duty on September 11, 2001.

This year, the event has expanded to include a larger 'community' component. The Fort Worth Police Department will bring the dogs from their Critical Incident team. The dogs will be available for participants and supporters to interact with and enjoy, offering a source of comfort and companionship throughout the event.

The Fort Worth Fire Department will have their Fire Safety House onsite for families to experience and even try to get out of a room with smoke. In addition, the Fort Worth Fire Department will have an ambulance onsite for families to explore inside and ask questions of the EMTs.

Also new this year, City Center will display a 20x20 quilt featuring the American flag comprised of individual photos of those who perished on 9/11. The quilt will be on display in the Bank of America Tower lobby for public viewing from September 9 to September 28.

Check-in begins at 7 am on September 14, and the event will commence at 8:25 am followed by a moment of silence at 8:46 am, marking the time American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center. The climb will begin at 8:47 am.
