Richard Marquez, President and CEO of Texans Can Academies, Louella Martin, Nicholas Martin and Charlie Powell, President of Ciera Bank Fort Worth Region attended the grand opening of the Louella and Nicholas Martin Wee Can Academy.

Fort Worth Can Academy recently opened its sixth Wee Can Academy and chose Fort Worth Can Academy-Lancaster Avenue for its new location. The Louella and Nicholas Martin Wee Can Academy is on the campus grounds of Fort Worth Can Academy- Lancaster Avenue, located at 1316 East Lancaster Avenue. The early childhood development center was dedicated with a grand opening celebration to honor longtime supporters of the Fort Worth Can schools, Louella and Nicholas Martin.

The E. Lancaster area has recently undergone major revitalization efforts since the former warehouse now beautifully renovated school was first purchased by Texans Can Academies. The Louella and Nicholas Martin Wee Can Academy will serve up to 79 children and is open to the community full day for children age six weeks to school age and offers after school programming for children up to 13 years of age.

Mayor Betsy Price spoke on behalf of Fort Worth along with and other local dignitaries offering gratitude to the Martins and to Texans Can Academies for their work and support in revitalizing the area and providing a path to education for the students of Fort Worth along with their infant children.

Wee Can Academy was created by Texans Can Academies as part of the school’s commitment to removing barriers to education for their high school students. Students who are also parents can attend high school while ensuring their children are being well cared for in the childcare center on their school campus. There are six Wee Can Academies located within Texans Can Academy high school campuses in Dallas, San Antonio and now Fort Worth.

Dr. Louella and Nicholas Martin’s support and leadership has played a major role in the city of Fort Worth and to both Fort Worth Can Academies’ two campuses. Earlier this year, Fort Worth Can Academies honored Dr. Martin with a Lifetime Achievement Award during their Cares For Kids Luncheon, recognizing her influence in the Fort Worth community.

“Nick and I are happy to support the children of the Wee Can Academy and to provide the less fortunate of our community with an opportunity at education and life,” said Louella Martin. “We have a great love for children of all ages as we have been blessed with many of our own."

The Louella and Nicholas Martin Wee Can Academy provides a safe, nurturing and educational environment for children and supports the families that are a part of the school or live in the community. Being a part of a greater, revitalized area in Fort Worth, the Center will also provide day care services to surrounding area residents.

Texans Can Academies are a unique network of 13 public schools in Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio.  The schools are tuition-free, open enrollment, public high schools of choice serving students who have struggled in a traditional high school setting.  To date, more than 141,000 youth have been given a second chance at life with the opportunity to pursue their dreams.
