Medical City Healthcare hospitals lead North Texas health systems with eight “A” grades in the spring 2023 Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit upholding the standard of patient safety in hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers.

Medical City Alliance, Medical City Dallas, Medical City Denton, Medical City Fort Worth, Medical City Frisco, Medical City McKinney, Medical City Plano and Medical City Weatherford are recognized with an “A” for providing safe care to patients and the community. The new grades reflect performance primarily during the height of the pandemic.

“Whether responding to the unique challenges of COVID-19 or providing life-improving surgeries every day, safety is always our top priority,” says Medical City Healthcare President Allen Harrison. “This national distinction recognizes our system’s patient promise to prioritize patient safety in every action, every patient, every time.”

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.

“This new update of Hospital Safety Grades shows that, at the national level, we saw deterioration in patient safety with the pandemic,” says Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “But these hospitals received an ‘A’ despite those challenges. I congratulate all the leaders, staff, volunteers and clinicians who together made that possible.”
