Christmas Tree lighting scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday November 23 in Sundance Square Plaza
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Sundance Square as the 50-foot concolor fir tree arrived and was set up Monday, November 18. Sundance Square’s elves are busy decorating the tree and building Santa’s stage for the official tree lighting ceremony, powered by Green Mountain Energy, at 6 p.m. sharp Saturday, November 23.
Santa Claus will make his 2019 debut on the Sundance Square Plaza stage, which will be transformed into a winter wonderland with a dramatic silver fabric backdrop. The plaza will feature several large, colorful sculptures as settings for photos with family and friends.
Sundance Square is expecting approximately 1.2 million visitors during the holiday season, beginning with the tree lighting ceremony and continuing through New Year’s Day. But there’ll be no waiting in long lines to see Santa, thanks to Sundance Square’s virtual line system. Upon arriving in Sundance Square Plaza, simply check in at Santa’s Sleigh, provide a mobile telephone number, and then shop, eat, and have fun. You’ll receive a text confirming your time to see Santa.
A visit and photo with Santa will be available for $20, with all proceeds benefiting the Fort Worth Sister Cities’ Youth Program. Santa will be available beginning immediately after the tree lighting Saturday, November 23, through Sunday, December 22 on the following schedule:
- Friday/Saturday/Sunday – 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Wednesday/Thursday – 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.
During Thanksgiving week, Santa will be available Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Thanksgiving Day, Santa will be back at the North Pole, checking his Naughty/Nice list, but he’ll be back in Sundance Square Plaza at 11 a.m. on Black Friday. Nearly 10,000 LED lights will illuminate this year’s Christmas tree, which will be powered by 100 percent renewable energy from Green Mountain Energy.

Heralding the theme “The Sounds of the Season,” the 37th annual GM Financial Parade of Lights will start at 6 p.m. Sunday, November 24. Reserve seats are on sale now. The parade route, as well as the schedule of activities, is online at fortworthparadeoflights.org.
Bass Performance Hall will host a number of holiday events including the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra’s Home for the Holidays and performances of DRUMLine Live Holiday Spectacular in November; as well as Miss Saigon and The Nutcracker throughout the month of December.
Jubilee Theatre presents If Scrooge Was A Brother. Eb Scroo is seeking to snuff out the season’s cheer by demanding all debts owed him be satisfied before nightfall on Christmas Eve. The residents are facing imprisonment and a Christmas without presents. The ghosts and characters in this urban spin on Dickens’ A Christmas Carol are icons of Black culture, performing gospel, R&B, and even reggae songs.
